Retrospective is an original play combining live performance and virtual reality.
SYNOPSIS // In the near future, memories can be downloaded and replayed again and again. Famous painter Calvin Brody Sr. struggles with Alzheimer's disease as his son and daughter work to preserve his remaining memories and repair their fragmented family. Both a gallery tour of Brody's artwork and a journey through his recollections, Retrospective explores mixed-reality technology, generational trauma and the unreliability of memory.
The experience is immersive and site-specific, leading the audience through the various rooms of a house, as they encounter live scenes interspersed with virtual-reality memory viewings, as well as hidden details and artifacts to discover.
The play premiered in Portland, OR in 2017, produced by Co.Reality and directed by Matt Ross.
